Parental Leave and Childcare

You Are Here Because You Believe Birth Is About Making Mums Too.

Interview with Maddy Butler

As a Newborn Mother, you are being invited to reinvent yourself because when a baby is born so is a mother, and the birth of a mother can be more intense than childbirth. You'll learn how to find peace and joy in the first 40 days after birth and how your postpartum experience can change your life.

Maddy has a background in communications and was working in media when she made a big career leap. After experiencing polar opposites with her children’s births: a traumatic experience the first time, and then healing, empowering birth the second time around, Maddy was drawn to working with other parents to empower them to take action. That led her to The Parenthood, where she works as Campaign Director on issues that support families, such as early childhood education and care and paid parental leave. She lives in Wurundjeri Country in Melbourne with her partner, their two young kids and two fluffy cats.

On The Podcast:

Maddy shares her traumatic first birth story, as well as her healing second birth. Her experience of the impact that different carers have on birth outcomes led her to become a community organiser and she is now Campaign Director for The Parenthood. Parenthood is a community working to make Australia the best place in the world to be a parent. #ParentsUp is their parent-led campaign for better paid parental leave and universal access to childcare.
